How can you help?

In Catalonia all sectors of society – industry, agriculture, the tourism sector, the citizens and the Administration – have been contributing to the drought effort for some years through individual and collective water saving. The constant reduction in domestic water consumption per inhabitant and day reflects the commitment assumed by all and especially by members of the public. But we can still improve more in using water correctly.

Using water correctly means using it responsibly and with solidarity, with awareness of the water reality of our country and applying all of the water-saving and efficiency measures within our means to make the best use of water, without harming the rivers, the aquifers and the other aquatic ecosystems in order to ensure that water is available to us in the future.

But when we think about the water problem, we must remember that we cannot think of water as just an urban, agricultural or industrial resource. Water is life and it plays an essential role in nature, since water is the principal agent in the equilibrium of our countryside and it sustains the ecosystems it comprises.

In this sense, we must remember that access to water is not only vital for people but also for nature and for this reason we have to maintain the ecological flow rates of our rivers, meaning the water levels which will enable the conservation of our natural heritage and supply the needs of the species around us.

If you want to find out different ways to continue reducing water consumption in the home, see the section ”Did you know..."

Each and every one of our small daily actions is necessary and welcomed as we face the drought together… we’re counting on you!
