Evolution of rainfall

Information provided by the Meteorological Service of Catalonia.

The time on the images is expressed in Universal Time (in winter the local time is UT +1 hour and in summer, with daylight saving, the local time is UT + 2 hours). The resolution of this image is 2 km and it is updated every 12 minutes so there are 5 images available every hour. The images show echo reflectivity, a measure of the intensity of the energy returned by the areas scanned by radar. In general, the greater the reflectivity, the greater the intensity of the precipitation.

Meteorological radars are observation instruments which enable the detection of rainfall from a distance and the estimation of its intensity. The Meteorological Service of Catalonia has the Catalan radar network (XRAD), made up of three radars, so as to have the best possible coverage of the whole territory.
