What is being done?

Catalonia is currently in an era of very scarce rain, a situation which has generally extended throughout the country from the summer of 2006 until today.

This situation, which must be added to the lack of snow reserves and the dangerous reduction in levels of reservoirs and aquifers, makes it advisable for the maximum precautions to be taken in the management of water resources as an efficient response to the shortages.

Current hydrological planning includes the execution of emergency and palliative actions in the short term as well as others of a structural nature in the medium term in order to resolve these shortages. The primary tool for action in this situation is the Decree of exceptional and emergency measures for the management of water resources, better known as the Decree on drought, approved by the Government of Catalonia in April 2007.
